Starting with life which is not controlled by finance.
Managing the finance vs. Being controlled by finance
“I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.” (v.12)
“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” (v.13)
Finance follows where our hearts are.
“I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity.” (v.10)
“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21)
“Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble.” (v.14)
“Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit.” (v.17)
God provides abundantly to those who give abundantly.
“I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.” (v.18-19)
“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:7-8)
Closing: Our true purpose is to please God and be used by Him.
